The Big White Farmhouse

intentional living, little by little

{chit chat} A Confession: I Don’t Have it All Together

Perfection.  It’s a crazy, unattainable goal, isn’t it?  Sadly, I still fall into the trap. Sometimes social media can be exhausting, maintaining this front that we live a picture perfect life.  But is it worth it?  What is gained if we appear to have it all together, but struggle in silence?

I hope that when you visit this blog, you see an honest representation of my life.  Sure, I tend to take pictures and blog about the “prettier” parts, but I hope you never come away feeling less.  I don’t have it all together and never will.  But that’s okay!

So in the spirit of celebrating, here are a few examples of my wildly imperfect life:

  • I currently have a king sized quilt draped across the banister of our stairs since it will not dry in the dryer!  It looks ridiculous, but where else am I going to put it to air dry?
  • I wear my hair in a top knot almost every day of the week during the summer.
  • See that picture above?  When I painted our chalkboard wall, I miscalculated how much to paint.  When we attached the framing, I was left with a bare strip across the bottom.  It drives me crazy and I keep meaning to touch it up, but it’s been months!
  • I am a horrible meal planner.
  • My boys are best friends, but can fight like animals.  Some days, I feel like all I do is discipline and referee.
  • I won’t have a William Morris Project post up this week because both of my ideas were busts.
  • I should be doing dishes, but instead, I’m blogging.
What about you?  I’d love to know one thing you are celebrating in your imperfect life!

I also wear my hair in a bun almost every day in the summer – heat + babies pulling hair make it so not worth it to wear it down!

And my twins have been napping exclusively in their swings for MONTHS, and there's no end in sight. I'm hoping the babysitter can train them to nap in their cribs some time this school year, and I'm glad I'm not the one who has to figure it out!

I spent the entire day yesterday ignoring my children and uploading pictures onto Shutterfly to make a Summer Memory book. Waking up in rural Alaska, where the morning temps have been in the mid-thirties are making me mourn my summer. So to make myself feel better, I thought I'd "whip up" a "quick" memory book. Ha! Twelve hours later I ordered a 72 page book of fun! Those poor kids!

I've been wearing my hair up more and more this summer. Heat + baby = no time to do it. I wash it about once every 3-4 days.

I like that you don't have it together because I don't either. My kids fight. I yell at them. Life is hard sometimes. But I mostly love it.

Top knot, yes. HORRIBLE as in nonexistent meal planner. That needs to change! Always dishes in the sink even though a clean sink really calms me (weird). And I the best at leaving random things out of their place and ignoring them for ridiculous amounts of time.

"and I the best at leaving random things out of their place and ignoring them for ridiculous amounts of time."

yes. yes. yes. I feel as if I have OCD tendencies in other aspects of life; planning cleaning, etc. But THIS^^^ I don't know why. It just happens, haha.

My house is a disaster right now. Especially since we have been dealing with Emme's burn. I just kinda checked out.
Today I am cleaning house….well, after I get off the computer. ๐Ÿ™‚
I wonder if I will ever have it altogether. One of my biggest fears is one day looking back at my life and saying…You missed so much because of what you were waiting for. I don't want to be that woman. We need to see the beauty in the mess but I haven't found that balance yet.

    Blessings on your day!

Ditto, ditto and ditto. Top knots are in, and who has time for meal planning?! Not me!! Just came across your blog from IG. Love it!
