My first finish for the Beautiful Things Project was a little garden cross-stitch pillow for my bedroom rocking chair! I found a sweet little pattern on the DMC website for free. I wanted to do this as inexpensively as possible, so I changed the colors to fit the ones I already owned. (I did have to buy two skeins of thread after I ran out, so my grand total for this project was $5.56.) I finished the back using the envelope method. The fabric I used isn’t a perfect match to the front colors, but it’s one that I’ve had in my stash for a decade and this seemed like a good time to use it!

That is an adorable little pillow. I love the idea of intentionally filling your home with beautiful things, especially hand made by those you know and love. I’ve been doing that for a couple years now. My son used to make longbows out of exotic species of wood, and many of those are hung up in our home. They really are works of art in their own right.
My daughter is a sketch artist, and I’ve got many of her works hung in our home. A favorite is one of the Madonna of the Streets that I commissioned her to do.
I made a rag wreath a few years ago that hangs on our wall.
I grow various flowers in our yard, and am always bringing them in to arrange in Mason jars or little white iron stone pitchers that I collect. A little thing that brings lots of happiness!
My husband does hardwood floors, so our family room floor is done with inlays of various species of wood. It’s quite lovely.
I really enjoyed the youtube video of the young man who does the chalk art, soap making, etc. that you posted on a previous blog post. Very inspiring – thank you for sharing it!
God bless you and yours,
Melisa

Thank you! It does require a fair amount of precision and counting, but I find it calming.
