The weather outside is //
As I look outside my window // I can see our newest additions to the homestead: four sweet little Berkshire/Tamworth pigs! They are so darn cute and are slowly warming up to us. We’ll be keeping two to breed and bringing two to processing late next spring.
As I look around the house // I’m feeling a little overwhelmed – everything seems to be breaking or suddenly falling apart! Financially, it’s not a great time (is it ever??) but that’s home ownership, I guess. Hopefully I’ll be able to DIY/Youtube video my way into fixing most of the problems.
On this week’s to-do list //
– call Miss Utility
– bake pretzel rolls
– give the little boys’ haircuts
– find a good shower glass soap scum remover DIY recipe
– wrap birthday presents
– try to figure out what’s going on with the vacuum cleaner
– figure out the dishwasher issue

We are LOVING them so far! We’re following the Joel Salatin way of keeping them moving on pasture, so hopefully our land will improve in quality over time. I’ll keep you posted, I have a lot to learn! 🙂

I wonder if you are enjoying ‘Reclaiming Our Roman Catholic Birthright.’ I have just finished ‘The Holy Bread of Eternal Life’ by the same author, as recommended by a friend. Overall, I really enjoyed it, though at times he is a bit strong. I wonder if I would be interested in more of his books.
Thanks for your blog – I love keeping up with my own house projects on a weekly and monthly basis from your inspiration!

I’m only about 50 pages in, but enjoying it so far. I’ve found it thought-provoking and helpful in seeing the Mass as it deserves to be said. I’ll definitely share more thoughts once I finish!

How are you enjoying Jayber Crow? My husband and I both read Hannah Coulter recently and really loved it. I just bought him a Wendell Berry select collection for his birthday (and, seriously, it’s like a gift to me too!).

I read Hannah Coulter last summer and LOVED it! Definitely one of my top five favorites of the year. Jayber Crow is really good so far – same small town feel, same slow, savoring reading experience. Wendell Berry is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Which collection did you get for your husband’s birthday?

That’s great to hear! He is quickly becoming one of our favourites too.
I ordered Wendell Berry: Port William Novels & Stories: The Civil War To World War II. It has Nathan Coulter and Andy Catlett: Early Travels in it, along with some essays. I wasn’t able to easily find single volumes of the novels and can’t order them into my library. Not sure if this is just a Canadian problem, but it was sad to realize that Wendell Berry isn’t being appreciated for his worth.
