It’s that time of year again! Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent is one week away. I’m planning to read through Jean-Pierre de Caussade’s Abandonment to Divine Providence (affiliate link). From the description: “God is to be found in the simplest of our daily activities and especially through total surrender to His will for each of us. That is the message of this 18th-century inspirational classic by Jean-Pierre de Caussade. Its encouragement to ‘live in the present moment,’ accepting everyday obstacles with faith, humility, and love, has guided generations of believers to holiness and spiritual peace.” A very timely and necessary read for me, I think!
Like in past years, I split up the sections and made myself a reading calendar to keep me on track. Sharing my plan below in case it’s helpful for someone else someday:

That’s an amazing book! My spiritual director, who is a 3rd Order Carmelite and very prayerful, wise woman, first recommended it to me. I read it once, years ago, and she suggested I read again, which I’m doing – though many other books intervened after I started it. I may have to pick it up again, and Lent is always a good time for such a book. I like how you’ve broken it down into small, doable sections.
I’m currently working on getting in consistent walks, and even made myself (don’t laugh) a reward chart! It’s working, and, yes, I feel like a kid, but that’s okay! Whatever it takes, right?
God bless,
Melisa

A reward chart is a great idea! I am a big fan of “trackers” in my planner – nothing like the joy of coloring in a box once the task is done, ha!

That book is on my to-read list, but not this year. I am going to work through a workbook called Healing the Whole Person by Dr. Bob Schuchts, a Catholic therapist. I am interested in hearing how you find your book! I also like the calendar spacing.

I’ve never heard of that workbook before, I’ll have to check it out!

For Lent We are trying to sing Lauds and Vespers everyday… sometimes it just hubby, with an occasional kiddo joining in. We got hit with a winter storm Wednesday night and have 7-8 inches of snow which is a record for our area! Lots of tree damage and power outages, Lent is off to a penitential start.

I heard about the crazy snow in the west at the same time we had a record-breaking 81 degree day over here! So wild. Hope all is back to normal in your neck of the woods.

Very structured, love it!
