Time for another check-in! As a review:
- Back in 2021, gas was $2.95/gallon, a gallon of whole milk was $2.81, a loaf of bread was $2.48, and a dozen eggs were $1.28.
- In 2022, gas was $4.19/gallon, a gallon of whole milk was $3.74, a loaf of bread was $3.34, and a dozen eggs were $1.88.
Today, our gas is currently around $3.65/gallon. A few grocery staples: a gallon of whole milk is $2.84, a loaf of bread is $3.27, and a dozen eggs are $1.50. So we’re looking better than 2022, but prices are still significantly high and we’re feeling the pinch! What ways are you finding to save money where you live?

And that Monet painting is just gorgeous; I’ve not seen that one before.
As to the D. E. Stevenson book, I’ll have to add that to my (delightfully) never-ending TBR list. I’ve only recently discovered her, and I’m so enjoying reading through her books. They’re comforting and enjoyable, yet full of snippets of wisdom. I’d also say that I’m noticing – particularly in her Vittoria Cottage series, that so many of her women characters possess such admirable female traits that illustrate the feminine genius.
(An example from D.E. Stevensons’ Music in the Hills: “…and she was a good person to confide in because she didn’t make silly suggestions as to what you should or shouldn’t do, she just listened.”)
There’s not one D.E. Stevenson book I haven’t enjoyed.

I have never read her books, but they always come so highly recommended! I’m going to ask for a few for my birthday this fall. 🙂
Gas here is $4.99 a gallon and our milk is $2.92 a gallon. A dozen eggs is $1.50, but lucky for us my mother-in-law has 50 chickens, so she supplies our eggs. We are honestly only making it because my parents help. I cannot wait to finish my degree and be able to bring some income to the household. Having three teenage boys to feed is killing us.
We do shop at Winco which is an employee owned store where you bag your own groceries, but it’s remarkably cheaper than Walmart or Safeway. I don’t know what we’d do if we didn’t have that. I also make tortillas, bread and cookies to stretch our groceries when they’re getting low.
Yes! The groceries are killing us too and that’s with us not having to buy meat or eggs! We’ve been making the 30 minute trip every other week to Aldi because it’s so much cheaper than Walmart…but that gas adds up too. We are definitely living in some financially tricky times.
