I’m trying something a little different for goal planning this school year. My new motto: we are not machines, we don’t have infinite energy levels, we can only do so much! Hopefully this new method will help me reduce my stress and prioritize the right things at the right times.
Well, April was a bust for goals, but incredibly rich in memory-making and family time. And that’s way more important than cleaning out the gutters, right?
Let’s review April first:
FIVE TOP PRIORITIES
- finish all of the garden bed prep and seed sowing (Nope! I’m perpetually behind…)
vacuum out the cars(A much overdue task!)bring the last two pigs to the butcherschedule standardized testing for May- go through the kids clothes, switch out for spring/summer and declutter the old/worn out (Finished my daughter’s wardrobe, but still have to tackle the two littlest boys.)
FIVE “WOULD BE GREAT TO DO” TASKS
start saving for a quick summer trip to SC- powerwash outdoor everything: furniture,
rugand the siding (I washed the rug and all of the pigs’ rubber pans/waterers, so…half credit?) - clean out the gutters
- have a backyard bonfire with s’mores
- buy a screen door
FIVE LITTLE STEPS TO GET AHEAD
- debt reduction:
earn $75+ reselling unneeded items around the house(Final amount earned: $157.64) - mother academia: read Brave New World and watch the Hillsdale lectures
- home: finish stripping the hallway walls
- handmade Christmas:
fully finish ornament #2(Done! Now to find a new pattern…) - farm: muck the chicken coops
On to May’s goals!
FIVE TOP PRIORITIES
These tasks tend to have deadlines or really should be completed this month.
- complete standardized testing and mail back
- transplant all of the tomatoes and peppers
- catch up on my stitch-a-day project
- muck the chicken coops
- declutter at least 30 items
FIVE “WOULD BE GREAT TO DO” TASKS
Examples of these tasks would be seasonal goals or things that just generally have less urgency.
- wear a dress everyday
- propagate hydrangeas from cuttings
- buy ferns for the front porch
- deep clean the refrigerator
- move the playset to another spot on the property
FIVE LITTLE STEPS TO GET AHEAD
This area is for big, overwhelming goals that can be broken down into bite-sized, attainable steps.
- debt reduction: earn $200+ reselling unneeded items around the house
- mother academia: read two Greek tragedies
- home: fix the front porch steps
- handmade Christmas: choose a new pattern for ornament #3 and begin
- farm: tear down the old pig shelters
I always read and yet never comment! Trying to be more of a commenter and less of a silent lurker.
Your plan with me posts always inspire me to think about my own goals for the month. I’m curious about the ornaments – are they crossstitch? My aunt makes all her great nieces and nephews cross stitch ornaments every year and they are beloved by my kids. (And have the advantage of being non-breakable – a good thing with a 5, 3, and 1 year old!)
Thanks so much for commenting and your feedback about the planning posts! Sometimes blogging feels a little one-sided and I feel silly posting such mundane task lists. So happy to hear that it’s helpful for you and your own goals!
And yes, the ornaments are cross-stitched! We have seven little cousins (7 under 7!) and I’m hoping I can finish one for each in time for Christmas. I’ll try to take a picture of the latest one to put in Monday’s post. 🙂
