ENJOYING // our new routine as we work through our third week of school. The transition has been relatively painless (especially compared with last year!) and the kids have all been so eager to learn. It’s been such a gift.
PLANNING // a few field trips that aren’t too far away. We took our first one last week to the Marine Corps Museum and it was awesome. Way less stressful than I anticipated, although I’m not sure I would have had the same experience without Mark there. The big kids were able to learn while I wrangled the littles.

READING // Small Great Things and I can’t.put.it.down. So hard and at times painful, but so good too.
PUTTING // “Bertha” (the affectionate name for my sourdough starter) in the fridge for now. I made sourdough bread just about every day all summer, but with the return of school and extra-curricular activities, I just don’t have the mental energy! Sometimes it can feel like taking care of another kid. I love knowing that she’ll be dormant in the fridge but easily come back to life when I’m ready to return to baking later this fall.
CREATING // mood boards for a little update in Sophie’s room and bathroom. We haven’t touched her room since moving in and I’m itching to make it feel more like her. Her only request is to include her favorite colors (pink and purple, naturally) so we’ll see what I can do!

SELLING // on Poshmark and loving it! It’s been a fun little side gig and will be helpful for financing my little home improvement projects (see above, hah!).
CELEBRATING // Mark’s new job offer! He starts on Monday and we are all so excited with this new change.
BUYING // presents for my two September birthday kiddos who kick off our family’s “birthday season.” Lots of discussion around here about cakes and candles and special dinner requests. It’s crazy having six birthdays (seven, if you count mine!) in a three month span, but I love it.
LISTENING // to a weird noise coming from the dishwasher when it runs. Praying it will magically fix itself, because I’d really prefer not to have to buy a new appliance right now. It’s always something!!

WORKING // on the front flower beds on Labor Day. With all the rain we’ve had this summer, the weed situation was out of control. I spent almost two hours in sweaty, 90°+ weather weeding and adding mulch and it looks so much better. Now I have to finally decide what I want to plant – maybe a whole row of peonies or hydrangeas?
STARTING // a new running program to get me into shape for a 10K in November. It feels good to push myself and I’m starting to see real progress.
BAKING // two new cookie recipes as part of 100 Little Things (goal #4). We made an oatmeal toffee cookie and s’mores chocolate chip – both were delicious.
DECIDING // that I should get my sugar consumption in check again. A summer of ice cream and cookies isn’t exactly the diet of champions and I probably need to reign it in a little, hah! New season, new habits…little by little.

Keep pushing yourself for that 10K, Mama! You can do it!
Ashley says
Thank you!! I ran a 10K last year and had really disappointing results, so I'm hoping with focused work, I can give a strong performance!

Hope you're having a good start to school. Congrats to your husband on his new job! Your daughter is adorable!
Ashley says
Thank you! His new job will allow a much healthier work/life balance – we're all thrilled!

Oh gosh, I definitely need to start eating better. It hasn't been ALL bad, but it's been bad enough that I've started gaining weight and I do not want that. So I need to get better and start moving more and hopefully I can take these pounds off in the next month or so. 🙂 Congrats to your husband on the new job! That's fantastic!!

I hear you! It's been SO humid and hot here that ice cream has been our dessert almost every night. I'm thinking cooler weather will help with the transition to healthier eating. I hope!

Congrats to Mark!! And I totally couldn't put Small Great Things down when I read it!
Ashley says
YES! I keep sneaking in a few pages when I get a spare minute! (And geez, I fixed my typo in the post too…that's what I get for pressing publish before my morning coffee.)

Yay for a smooth transition into the school year. We're only one day in, but already I can feel it is going to be better than last year (no clinging or crying!), so I'm feeling good 🙂 And I felt similarly about Small Great Things. Not exactly light topics, but it was hard to put down!
Ashley says
It's so nice to start school off on a positive foot, don't you think? So happy to hear yours is going well too!

I have not had any luck selling on Poshmark! How long does it take you to sell something? I keep lowering the price and my pictures look good. Who do you share your items with and how often?
Ashley says
It took almost two weeks before I sold my first item. My biggest advice is to keep sharing your items to your followers. I share my entire closet three times a day (morning, noon and bedtime) and I also try to share other people's items as well. My focus is to get my clothes visible to as many people as I can and to make connections with ladies who sell similar items.
Let me know your closet name and I can share yours too!
Catherine says
That is awesome advice!! Thank you so much! That was my biggest question: how often do I share with followers! Perfect!
Ashley says
I hope it helps get you that first sale!

P.S. My name closet is @alljoyreminds! Thank you!
