The Big White Farmhouse

intentional living, little by little

November 4, 2019

No.313: Intentions for the Beginning of November

“Get used to lifting your heart to God, in acts of thanksgiving, many times a day. Because he gives you this and that. Because you have been despised. Because you haven’t what you need or because you have. Because he made his Mother so beautiful, his Mother who is also your Mother. Because he created the sun and the moon and this animal and that plant. Because he made that man eloquent and you he left tongue-tied … Thank him for everything, because everything is good.”
– St. Josemaria Escriva

INTENTIONS FOR THE BEGINNING OF NOVEMBER

  • buy wrapping paper and wrap gifts for M
  • finish collecting items for Birthday Boxes and drop off at the food pantry
  • start thinking about Christmas
  • send off broken crayons to The Crayon Initiative
  • make homemade playdough (100LT #58)
  • list 10 things on Poshmark/ebay
  • bake bread
  • catch up on snail mail correspondence
  • replace the foyer light

            PREVIOUS INTENTIONS

If you’re reading on your phone or in a reader, be sure to click over to see what I checked off the list!

            • buy upholstery pins and finally finish the living room chair slipcover project (not perfect, but it looks better than before!)
            • purchase slippers for the kids who need them
            • start collecting items to assemble Birthday Boxes for the food pantry
            • buy a fabric shaver and try to save some of my older sweaters
            • sew the button back on my wool coat
            • condition the leather on my booties
            • clean my indoor/outdoor rug (I think I’m going to wait until spring to do this – it’s too chilly to be spraying it outside with the hose!)
            • try to take a decent family photo in our yard for Christmas cards
            • make a soup (I made tomato basil parmesan with grilled cheese sandwiches)
            • get our oven fixed (SO thankful for a working oven!)
            • bake pumpkin chocolate chip cookies (we made our go-to recipe and they were gone in minutes!)
            • give P a haircut (didn’t get to P, but I did give J a haircut and Sophie a trim)
            • catch up on snail mail correspondence
            • hang curtains in the little boys’ room

Hey! I just found your blog and am your newest subscriber—seems like we have a lot in common! I'm super curious about these birthday boxes for the food pantry. What are they, exactly?

So nice to meet you, Torrie! Birthday Boxes are a project we do as a family to donate to our local food pantry each fall – I wrote a post all about it here: https://thebigwhitefarmhouse.blogspot.com/2017/03/giving-birthday-boxes-for-food-pantry.html
Let me know if I can answer any other questions!

I really like that you write a list of intentions each month! I don't know if I'd be able to keep up with a monthly post like this but I really like the idea! Also, you just reminded me that I need to start thinking about Christmas . . .

Less than 50 days 'til Christmas, can you believe it?!
