The Big White Farmhouse

intentional living, little by little

1. Excellent post: Living in my Ideal World.  My favorite quote: “Our food choices do not define who we are. They certainly do not define our motherhood.”  As a mamma who has definitely fallen off the healthy food wagon lately, I really needed to read this one.

2. And another good one: Cracked Goggles.  A good reminder if you’re in the middle of a trial and wonder what in the world God’s plan is.

3.  Have you checked out Land of Nod lately?  Our Little Miss isn’t even here yet, but I think I’ve already picked out her twin bed!  Since that is still quite a ways down the line, I’ve got my eye on some wall art decor for the nursery instead: an alphabet print and maybe spelling out her name?

4. I’m still struggling with being a consistent meal-planner, but this free printable from Angela at Anything but Perfect may help me get motivated.  So cute!

5. Have you ever made Browned Butter Crinkles?  I haven’t, but they look delicious!

6. Let’s talk jeans.  I’m still in the horrible stretchy pant stage of pregnancy and will be for the next two months (at least!), but I found this article incredibly interesting.  Gap and Old Navy are gateways to Mom Jeans?  Who knew?!

7. I think I need this print to hang up in our new house…LOVE the simple typography! Also love this one (maybe for the nursery?) and this one too.

8. A simple idea for you DIY-ers: Painted Cork Board Messaging Hoops.  Cute for a craft room!

9. You must check out Camille’s new accessory shop. Her necklaces are so lovely and understated…must have pieces for your jewelry box!

{etsy finds} Vintage Back to School

Today is our first day of Kindergarten!  The school supplies have been purchased, the lesson plans have been written out and the books are anxious to be read!  As a real first-timer as far as homeschooling goes, I’ve got lots of butterflies.  I’m praying (a lot!) that I can provide my children a year full of learning and fun.

To celebrate this momentous day in our family, I found all kinds of great school-related finds on etsy.  I’m still on a big vintage kick lately…check these out:
1. 1960s Plaid Schoolgirl Dress (size 4): $14
2. 1940s Industrial School Desk in Fire Engine Red: $165
3. Vintage School Glove ca. 1950s: $67
4. Fisher Price School House: $45
5. Milk Glass Pedestal Vase: $12

{read along} Mitten Strings for God: Rhythm

“…it is a challenge for us to incorporate rhythm into our daily lives.  To do so, we must commit ourselves to order and routine; to a slower, more deliberate pace; to intention rather than to happenstance.  In other words, we must develop a sense of ritual.” — page 139

With everything moving so quickly in our lives lately, I can definitely see the ramifications in the actions of my children.  For the past few weeks, there has been a lot of brotherly bickering, lots of begging for “One more TV show, Mamma, pleeease?!”….and this Mamma is tired.  My kids need a routine.  They thrive, both in behavior and attitude, when there is a plan to our day and they know what is coming next.
The first day of our school year is on Monday and I just know this will be a positive change in my home.  Finally, some rhythm!

Hello friends!  Popping in to share my latest discoveries via the www.  I knew I couldn’t stay away for too long! 🙂

1. This post, A Miracle Inside the Aurora Shooting: One Victim’s Story, is just amazing. It’s definitely worth the read.

2. Last week, I purchased this printable from katygirl Designs for the new nursery.  Isn’t it sweet?  One of my favorite verses and bonus point! All proceeds go to Hope 4 Sudan.

3. Another really interesting article: 1940s Housewife showed how to tame high grocery prices.  A thought provoking quote from her now-grown daughter: “
I am distressed by the things now, living to get things as opposed to living to enjoy life…”

4. New breakfast recipes to add to the to-try list: Gluten-Free Baked Oatmeal Casserole and Peanut Butter Banana Oat Breakfast Cookies.

5. How cute is this little packaging idea using cupcake wrappers?

6. I love the texture and the colors of this original painting from Angela Cox.  Abstract and just so cool!

7. A new book I cannot wait to read:
The Reading Promise: My Father and the Books We Shared.

8. Food for thought provided by Mother Teresa: “You and I, we are the Church, no? We have to share with our people. Suffering today is because people are hoarding, not giving, not sharing. Jesus made it very clear. Whatever you do to the least of my brethren, you do it to me.  Give a glass of water, you give it to me. Receive a little child, you receive me.”
