{deals} How to Create an Adorable Baby Wardrobe on the Cheap: ebay Tips & Tricks

If you haven’t noticed my near constant reminders, we’re having a baby girl in October!  We absolutely cannot wait to meet her, but I’m not in too much of a hurry because we have so much to do!  I’ll be honest and say that after the ultrasound, I did have a moment of being totally overwhelmed with the thought that we have nothing for her…no girlie clothing, no girlie toys, nothing!  Another baby boy we were ready for, but a girl?  We’re starting at square one 🙂

With so many other things going on in our lives right now, it’s really important for my family to be as frugal as possible.  Our solution to be creative with our funds and get this little one a whole new wardrobe?  Enter ebay!  Now I’m no expert, but I’ve learned a few tricks along the way and thought I’d share with you!
  • Search two ways: either by typing in exactly what you’re looking for (ie. “girls 3 months sleeper” or by filtering through using the categories provided by ebay.  I like to look at both versions…sometimes you can find a treasure that may have been overlooked.
  • One trick is to search for off-season clothing.  I have been searching for fall/winter outfits and since most buyers are looking for summerwear right now, I’ve been able to score a few great deals!
  • When you find something you like, be sure to read the entire description.  I like to look for words like “EUC – excellent used condition”, “like new”, or even “new with/without tags”.
  • Be sure to check out the pictures and double-check the descriptions for stains, holes, etc.  I’m hesitant to purchase anything with spit-up stains, but if you’re an amazing stain-getter-outer, you may be more adventurous!
  • Check the seller’s feedback.  I always check the latest feedback to see what the previous buyers’ experience has been like.  Very important!
  • Now you’re ready to bid.  My tip: decide what you want to pay for the item and make one bid.  It is so tempting to get in a bidding war on ebay, but you may end up paying much more than you had hoped.  Not good when you’re on a budget!  (Trust me!)
  • Be sure to check the shipping costs.  Most are reasonable, but a few sellers have crazy prices.  $6 shipping for a onesie weighing 3 ounces?  No way.  For most children’s clothing, I think $3.50 and lower is an acceptable amount.  But be sure to check for those free shipping auctions, those are my favorite!
  • Last tip: say you find an auction for an adorable outfit.  Be sure to check out the other auctions from the same seller!  Oftentimes, they are selling a bunch of the same type (ie. baby girl clothing) and most will combine shipping if you win more than one auction…huge savings for you!
Hope this is helpful!  All of the clothing pictured above was purchased on ebay.  My personal goal is to find like new items and spend $5 or less (including the shipping!) on every outfit.  So far so good…I love the search.
Do you have any tips for saving money on kids’ clothes?  Any ebay tips I forgot?  Please share!

P.S. If you don’t have the time or energy to search through ebay or prefer just to purchase new, be sure to check out Ebates!  They have so many children’s stores listed: Children’s Place, Old Navy, Baby Gap, Carters, and more…all giving 2% or more cash back!  I used Ebates last year for Christmas purchases and was pleased to see a little money headed back my way 🙂  You can sign up here!

{deals} My First Order with OKL

You know how much I window shop at One Kings Lane, right?  I probably check the site at least once a week, always finding something I love.  So when OKL contacted me with a store credit to try out the shopping experience, I couldn’t say yes fast enough!

Making a decision was hard.  So hard.  I finally decided on a white ceramic jar.  Check out the pictures to see:

Isn’t the packaging great?  Loved the simple kraft paper with the Thank You sticker.

The jar is white and ceramic.  I love the unique design on the lid…isn’t it interesting?  It reminded me of a stained glass window.  This jar is very versatile and I can already see it being used in a number of ways: in the living room as a catch-all for keys, on my dresser for jewelry, purely as decoration on a stack of books…

Right now, I thought it was safest (away from my children – it is ceramic afterall!) in my bathroom to hold makeup.  Roomy enough to hold all of my essentials!

So now I can definitively say that One Kings Lane is a great site, start to finish!  If you’re interested, be sure to sign up!

**I was awarded a store credit to try out OKL, but the experience and opinions are all my own!**

This is such a great price for two items that will get tons of use!  Love these for entertaining…I’m imagining iced tea, lemonade or even orange juice for a brunch.

I already own a similar basket, but loved the neutral look of this one!  These are so handy for corralling toys and “kids stuff” while still looking organized and stylish.  You can also use them for magazines or even blanket storage.
Seashell – $12
A nod to summer and the beach, isn’t this white resin seashell fun?  I like the simplicity.  It would look so darling on an entry table atop a pile of books.

{deals} Have you Heard of One Kings Lane?

Have you heard of One Kings Lane?  There are so many “flash deal” sites out there, and while the draw is usually enticing, I rarely find something I just have to have.  NOT true with One Kings Lane!

OKL is sort of like a sample sale of home furnishings online.  They are deeply discounted (like up to 70% off discounted!) and some of the best deals go fast.  And while many items are still much too expensive for this stay-at-home-mamma-with-three-children-with-a-limited-budget (sigh), there are plenty of finds if you look for them!  Here are a few I’m loving right now:

Eccolo Fireri Wrap Journal $25 – This leather journal is just gorgeous and would make an awesome Christmas gift.

Town & Country Balloon Cover, Matted and Framed! $159 – This would be so darling in a little girl’s room (love that pop of yellow!)  I’d love it in a living room too.  And I love that it’s already matted and framed, it’s 20″x24″…such a great price!

Set of Four Floral Wall Plaques $39 – Aren’t these plaques so sweet for a little girl’s nursery?  So shabby chic and delicate.

White Half Moon Mirror $119 – I love architectural details and this mirror is so cool.  I can picture it over a sideboard in a dining room or maybe even over the mantel.

Small Serving Tray $9 – This is one of those decor pieces that you can use in a billion ways.  Right now, I think I’d fill it with mini pumpkins and put it on my kitchen table!

This is just a small sampling of the things you’ll find at One Kings Lane.  You definitely have to check it out!  And let me know what you see!
