The Big White Farmhouse

intentional living, little by little

August 30, 2011

{i want to remember} – 8/30/11

Sometimes life gets so busy that I forget to notice and appreciate the little things.  Here are some of the things I don’t want to forget about our first day of PreK:

I WANT TO REMEMBER… waking up to M’s face by my bedside saying, “Oh Mamma!  Today is school!  I’m so excited!”
I WANT TO REMEMBER… my high hopes for a special “First Day” breakfast.  I even bought new plates and cups from Target!  But my bacon didn’t come out right and one child requested an omelette after I had made a big batch of scrambled eggs.  Lesson learned: life isn’t picture perfect, so just roll with it.
I WANT TO REMEMBER… having my three boys cuddled around me on the couch as we read How to Make an Apple Pie and See the World.
I WANT TO REMEMBER… our first project: making a HUGE apple tree on the kitchen wall.  M kept saying, “This is so much fun.  This is so cool.  I can’t wait until Daddy sees this.”
I WANT TO REMEMBER… what an awesome privilege it is to teach my babies at home.  Life and circumstances change every year, so this may not last forever.  But for now, I am confident this is right choice for us.  I am so, so blessed.

{i want to remember} – 8/10/11

Sometimes life gets so busy that I forget to notice and appreciate the little things.  Here are some of the things I am loving this week:

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how D is calling everybody “big guy” after hearing his Daddy call him that for so long.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how M’s idea of “cleaning” is shoving all of his toys into one corner of the room.  He’s just so proud though when he shows me – I don’t have the heart to correct him!

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how J babbles to himself as he plays.  He has lots to say!

I WANT TO REMEMBER… D and his “pow-ahs” (powers).  He takes two receiving blankets and swings them around in the air, declaring, “Watch out for me supah powahs!”  Reason #1000 why having little boys in the house is AWESOME!

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how among the long list of what he wants to be when he grows up, M wants to be a “Police Department-er”.  🙂

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how incredibly great it is to hear the beginnings of brother conversations.  D is really talking and expressing himself lately and the big boys have been coming up with some great games and adventures.  The latest convo overheard while building with blocks:

D: Whatchu makin’?  I makin’ a robot.
M: I’m making a tower.
D: Cool dude!

My cup runneth over.

{i want to remember} – 7/25/11

Sometimes life gets so busy that I forget to notice and appreciate the little things.  Here are some of the things I am loving this week:

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how much the big boys love our little blow-up pool on the back deck.  They have been spending hours out there!  I love to watch them play and imagine together; my favorite so far is policemen with water guns.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how all of a sudden, J is everywhere!  He is discovering every inch of our living room and even pulling himself up to standing.  Time is flying with that boy.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… the awesome Craigslist deal I scored!  For months, I have been looking all over for an affordable mirror for above our fireplace.  No such luck…until last week!  I found it on Craigslist and even managed to talk her down $15.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how utterly delicious icecream sundaes from McDonald’s taste after a day with record high temps (with the heat index, it was 115 degrees!).

I WANT TO REMEMBER… dance parties after dinner, big wet smooches, and giggling brothers…we are so blessed.

{i want to remember} – 7/7/11

Sometimes life gets so busy that I forget to notice and appreciate the little things.  Here are some of the things I am loving this week:

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how J loves to bang everything together!  His second favorite game is throwing toys off of his high chair.  And so it begins…

I WANT TO REMEMBER… D’s sweet little face as he looked intently at my recipe card (like he was reading it) when we baked muffins together.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… M’s obsession with all things Power Rangers after Mark discovered you could watch it instantly on Netflix.  I have to limit the number of episodes he watches or he’d have it on all day!

I WANT TO REMEMBER… the excitement in our home when our sweet baby J started crawling!  Seven months old and on the move!  The big boys were his biggest cheerleaders and were hugging and high fiving each other.  It was quite possibly the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… relaxing with Mark after the boys are in bed watching episodes of “Deadliest Warrior”.  My husband declares that I am “The Greatest Wife Ever.” I think he’s pretty great too.

{i want to remember} – 6/24/11

Sometimes life gets so busy that I forget to notice and appreciate the little things.  Here are some of the things I am loving this week:

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how D always, ALWAYS remembers to say thank you.  He will actually repeat it and repeat it until you acknowledge him.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how J has two teeth at 6 1/2 months old!  I just love his little toothy grin!

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how M colors everything in rainbows!  He will take each little space in a picture and color it a different color.  Sometimes it takes him 15-20 minutes to finish one page, but what an eye for detail and precision.  I can only imagine what his future holds with those qualities!

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how both of the big boys’ have taken to wearing baseball caps around the house.  They never liked hats when they were babies and have always fussed when forced to wear winter caps.  So it’s a big surprise now that they just LOVE their Cowboys & Boston caps!

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how great it felt to sew a little this week.  I pulled out my hand sewing and for the first time since J was born, I was able to get a little done!  The ideas are flowing and I can’t wait to get a project started!  Perhaps a baby quilt?

{i want to remember} – 6/17/11

Sometimes life gets so busy that I forget to notice and appreciate the little things.  Here are some of the things I am loving this week:

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how easy it was for D to warm up to Nana.  Since he hasn’t seen her since last summer, I assumed he would be hesitant and a little nervous.  But he went right up to her and started feeding her play food.  What a sweet memory.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how the boys yelled “Come on Nana!  Let’s kick the ball!” when they were playing soccer in the front yard.  M specifically picked her for his team.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how sweet it was to hear Nana talking to J.  He loved being with her and gave her many smiles and giggles.  I think she just melted.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… all the stories that watching my three boys brought back for Nana.  It was so neat to hear her memories, like how Grandpa thought it was silly when she said, “Nakie babies”.  Such amazing (and so personal now, for me as a mother) family history.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how nice it feels to be with family, how special our relationships are.  How much we are loved.  We are so, so blessed.

{i want to remember} – 6/13/11

Sometimes life gets so busy that I forget to notice and appreciate the little things.  Here are some of the things I am loving this week:

I WANT TO REMEMBER… D’s hysterical new dance moves.  He walks on his tippy toes, pointing out in different directions and his head is cocked to one side.  So strange and yet so funny!

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how J will grab the big boys’ faces and dive in for a kiss.  M & D are quite patient and actually volunteer for the “pinch kiss”.

I WANT TO REMEMBER… how lucky we are to have air conditioning!  Our A/C was out for three days and of course it happened during a heat wave!  With the temperature reaching 90 degrees inside the house, it was quite uncomfortable to say the least!  We are all so thankful for that cool air (and our A/C guy who saved the day)!

I WANT TO REMEMBER… the sound of M’s belly laughs.  They seem to come only occasionally (lately he’s become quite a serious boy) but once he gets laughing, there’s just no stopping him!  This week, I was reading our very first chapter book aloud (Uncle B’s old Ninja Turtles), and used a voice that he thought was so funny.  He belly laughed until he couldn’t breathe!
